Taipei: An eight-member Latvian parliamentary delegation led by Ingrida Circene, the chair of the Latvia-Taiwan parliamentary friendship group, has arrived in Taiwan for a significant visit that includes a stop at the Asia UAV AI Innovation Application R and D Center in southern Taiwan. This visit marks the first time in recent years that Latvia’s parliament has sent an official delegation to Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
According to Focus Taiwan, during their Sunday-Thursday visit, the delegation is scheduled to meet with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim. They will also attend banquets hosted by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and National Security Council Secretary-General Joseph Wu. The visit aims to foster diplomatic and cooperative ties between the two regions.
The Latvian delegation is also set to meet with several high-ranking officials, including Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu and Deputy Minister of National Defense Po Hung-hui. Discussions with senior representativ
es from the Mainland Affairs Council and the Bureau of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Economic Affairs are also on the agenda, as reported by MOFA.
In addition to diplomatic engagements, the delegation will visit the Asia UAV AI Innovation Application R and D Center in Chiayi County, the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau in Hsinchu City, and the Industrial Technology Research Institute in Hsinchu County. These visits are expected to explore potential collaborations and the sharing of technological advancements.
MOFA has emphasized that Taiwan and Latvia share common values of freedom and democracy, expressing hope that this visit will enhance cooperation across various sectors and strengthen parliamentary ties between the two regions.
