Legislator and Former Taipei Mayor Join KMT Chair Election Registration

Taipei: Former Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin, Legislator Lo Chih-chiang, and former lawmaker Cheng Li-wun participated in the registration process for the Kuomintang's (KMT) chair election scheduled for next month. The candidates, alongside their supporters, made their way to the KMT headquarters in Taipei on Thursday morning.

According to Focus Taiwan, Hau Lung-bin collected the registration documents, while Lo Chih-chiang and Cheng Li-wun finalized their registration by paying a NT$3 million handling fee and a NT$10 million deposit. Speaking to the media, Lo emphasized his campaign message, which centers on the need for the KMT to cease internal conflicts and focus on holding the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)-led government accountable. Lo highlighted his suitability as a candidate who could unite the party, foster cooperation with the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), and maintain a grassroots connection.

Hau Lung-bin, who served as Taipei mayor from 2006 to 2014, assured that he would not pursue the presidency but would instead support the party in winning future elections. He stressed the importance of collaboration between the KMT and TPP to strengthen their position against the DPP. Hau was supported by media figure and 2024 KMT vice-presidential candidate Jaw Shau-kong, who endorsed Hau's candidacy.

Cheng Li-wun drew attention to her humble beginnings in Yunlin County, asserting her determination and character as her key attributes. She also committed to opposing DPP's efforts to undermine the existence of the Republic of China, referencing recent political disputes about Taiwan's status.

The registration for the KMT chair election remains open until Friday, with the vote set to take place on October 18 to find a successor for the outgoing chairman, Eric Chu.
