Lin Yu-ting Advances to World Boxing Cup Semifinals in China

Guiyang: Taiwan's Olympic boxing gold medalist Lin Yu-ting on Friday cruised into the semifinals of the women's 60 kilogram division at the World Boxing Cup stop in China with a dominant victory over her Brazilian opponent.

According to Focus Taiwan, Lin faced Brazil's Rebeca Santos, the reigning world champion in the division. Although the Taiwanese boxer only narrowly won the first round with a 3-2 decision from the five judges, she gradually took control in the second round. Lin dictated the pace of the match, while Santos was penalized with a point deduction after a warning from the referee. This allowed Lin to secure the round with a 5-0 score.

In the final round, Lin maintained her rhythm, focusing on counterattacks to clinch the win. She is set to face China's Yang Chengyu, the 2023 World Boxing Cup champion, in the upcoming semifinals.

This competition marks only Lin's second international outing in the 60 kg division since her Olympic gold victory in Paris in 2024. Her previous appearance was at the Asian Boxing Elite Boxing Championships in April, where she earned a bronze medal after exiting in the semifinals.

At the World Boxing Cup stop in Guiyang, Taiwan entered two male and four female boxers, with only Lin and Wu Shih-yi, in the women's 57 kg division, reaching the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, Wu was defeated by Indian boxer Prachi Prachi.

Lin's coach, Tseng Tzu-chiang, expressed satisfaction with her performance, commending her ability to limit her opponent's attacks and adhere to their strategic plan. Tseng noted that Lin, who previously excelled in the 57 kg division due to her speed, must now adapt to the increased power needed in the heavier 60 kg class.

The World Boxing Cup in China is taking place from June 15-21 at the Guiyang Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium.
