Magnitude 4.5 earthquake rocks Taitung County

A magnitude 4.5 earthquake jolted Taitung County in southeastern Taiwan at 4:02 a.m. Sunday, according to the Central Weather Bureau.

The epicenter of the quake was located in water off the county, 32.2 kilometers northeast of Taitung County Hall, at a depth of 22.1 km, the bureau said.

The temblor’s highest intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a quake, was recorded in Taitung, where it measured 3 on Taiwan’s 7-tier intensity scale.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
