A magnitude 4.8 earthquake occurred off the coast of eastern Taiwan at 2:07 p.m. Monday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
The earthquake was centered 45.4 kilometers east of the Yilan County government offices at a depth of 5 km, according to the CWB.
The earthquake’s intensity, which gauges its actual effect, was highest in parts of Yilan and Hualien counties, where it measured 3 on Taiwan’s 7-tier intensity scale, according to CWB data.
The quake also had an intensity of 2 in New Taipei.
No damage or injuries from the quake were immediately reported.
