Tainan: A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck Tainan in southern Taiwan at 2:06 p.m. Friday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA). The earthquake’s epicenter was located in the city’s Nanhua District, about 42 kilometers east-northeast of Tainan City Hall, and it hit at a depth of 15.1 km, CWA data showed.

According to Focus Taiwan, there were no immediate reports of damage. The earthquake’s intensity, which gauges the actual effects of a temblor, was highest in parts of Tainan and Kaohsiung, as well as Yunlin, Chiayi, and Changhua counties, where it measured 4 on Taiwan’s seven-tier intensity scale. It measured 3 in Chiayi City and many other nearby areas, according to the CWA.
