Magnitude 6 Earthquake Rocks Northeastern Taiwan

Yilan: A magnitude 6 earthquake struck off northeastern Taiwan's Yilan County at 9:11 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA). The earthquake's epicenter was located in waters between Toucheng Township and Guishan Island, about 22.1 kilometers northeast of Yilan County Hall, and hit at a depth of 112 km, CWA data showed. There were no immediate reports of damage.

According to Focus Taiwan, the earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effects of a temblor, was highest in Yilan's Dongshan and Nan'ao townships and Taipei's Xinyi District, where it measured 4 on Taiwan's seven-tier intensity scale. It measured 3 in other areas of Yilan and Taipei, as well as locations in New Taipei, Taoyuan, and counties including Hsinchu, Hualien, Miaoli, and Nantou, according to the CWA.
