Man to Face Fine for Showering Incident on Taiwan Train

Taipei: A man who took a shower in the bathroom of a Taiwan Railway Corp. local train on Sunday, leading to water spilling out and flooding the carriage, has been identified and is set to face a fine, as reported by the Railway Police Bureau.

According to Focus Taiwan, the Railway Police Bureau’s Taipei Precinct received a report at 9 a.m. on Sunday regarding a passenger suspected of showering on the No. 1136 local train traveling from Hukou, Hsinchu County to Ruifang, New Taipei. Responding officers boarded the train at Taipei Station, but the individual had already disembarked.

A video posted on Threads captured the incident, showing passengers gathered outside the closed bathroom door as water streamed into the train carriage. The video, which had garnered over 17,000 “likes” by Monday, featured a caption stating, “Someone is showering on the train and the whole carriage is full of water.”

The train’s “multi-functional bathroom” includes a metal hose and spray nozzle intended for cleaning purposes, which the man reportedly used to shower. Through surveillance footage, police identified the individual as a man in his 50s, surnamed Pan, known to frequent Taipei Station and approach travelers with fabricated stories to solicit money.

Pan has a history of fraud and larceny charges related to these activities, according to the bureau. For his unauthorized use of the train’s facilities, the bureau intends to impose a fine under Article 71 of the Railway Act, which stipulates penalties ranging from NT$1,500 (US$47.68) to NT$7,500 for various types of misconduct on trains.
