#MeToo: TV Personality Nono Indicted on Rape, Forced Indecency Charges

Taipei: The Shilin District Prosecutors Office has indicted Taiwanese television personality Nono, whose real name is Chen Hsuan-yu, on charges of rape and forced indecency involving two women.

According to Focus Taiwan, the indictment follows allegations that Chen visited a Taipei spa between 2011 and 2013, where he allegedly raped a female masseuse by overpowering her. In another incident, prosecutors claimed that in 2011, Chen contacted a woman through a video she uploaded after appearing on a television program. He allegedly met her in December of that year, where he reportedly used physical force to pin her down in his car, forcibly kiss her, and grope her.

Prosecutors have recommended a heavy sentence for Chen, emphasizing his use of celebrity status to exploit victims, causing them severe harm while denying the allegations. These cases, initially not prosecuted by the Taipei District Prosecutors Office, were reconsidered and transferred to the Shilin District Prosecutors Office, where they were again not prosecuted. Following another reconsideration request by the victims, the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office ordered further investigation by the Shilin office.

Chen has consistently denied the allegations. In a separate trial in May 2025, Chen was sentenced to two years and six months for attempted rape by the Shilin District Court. Both Chen and prosecutors have appealed the ruling, which is currently under review by the Taiwan High Court.
