Taipei: Nestl© Taiwan announced Wednesday that the affected batches of baby formula have not been sold in Taiwan, even as at least 30 countries have initiated recalls over concerns that the products contain the toxin cereulide. In a statement, the company emphasized that its products available in Taiwan are safe for consumption.
According to Focus Taiwan, Nestl© Taiwan reassured that it has implemented necessary control measures to maintain consumers’ trust in its product safety. The company invited consumers to reach out to its customer service centers for any inquiries. The issue stems from the detection of cereulide, a toxin produced by certain bacteria that can cause foodborne illness, found in arachidonic acid oil supplied by a major manufacturer, as noted in a statement on the company’s global website.
Nestl© stated that it is in contact with authorities in the affected countries to ensure that appropriate measures are taken. The company has tested all of its arachidonic acid oil and corresponding oil mixes and is collaborating with the supplier to identify the root cause of the problem. To date, no illnesses have been confirmed in connection with their products.
