North Korea earned its first-ever Olympic diving medal in France on Wednesday. Jo Jin-mi and Kim Mi-rae teamed up for silver in the women's synchronized 10-meter platform diving event at the Paris Olympics. They scored 315.90 points at Olympic Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis, just north of Paris, to finish well behind Chen Yuxi and Quan Hongchan of China, who ran away with the gold at 359.10 points. This was North Korea's second medal overall at the ongoing Olympics, following the silver medal in the mixed doubles table tennis event by Ri Jong-sik and Kim Kum-yong on Tuesday. Kim had finished fourth at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics with a different partner, Kim Kuk-hyang. "I was disappointed that I couldn't win a medal then. I had worked as hard as anyone, but couldn't quite execute the last move," Kim recalled during the medalists' press conference. "Back home, we had been training hard day and night. Even though we didn't win the gold medal, we're happy with this silver medal." Jo, competing in her first Olympics at 19, added, "Even though we finished in second place, we are very pleased. We're not going to be content with this and will try harder to win a gold medal." Both divers responded to questions from South Korean journalists during the presser.
