Public should leave earlier, avoid peak of Eid exodus: Minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Transportation Ministry urged people to leave earlier for the Eid al-Fitr exodus and avoid the peak period of the exodus flow from April 18 to April 21, 2023.Head of Public Relations of the Land Transportation Directorate General Pitra Setiawan noted in a written statement on Monday that earlier, the peak of the exodus was projected to occur on April 21, 2023, a day before Eid al-Fitr that is predicted to fall on April 22, 2023. However, due to the adjustment in collective leave days to April 19-25, there is a potential for a surge in passengers to occur since the night of April 18, 2023. “For that reason, we ask people to leave earlier and avoid the peak of the Exodus flow,” he emphasized. Setiawan noted that apart from being the government’s responsibility, the community should also play an active role in ensuring the successful implementation of transportation during the Eid period. “Therefore, we hope that the people plan and arrange the trip well before leaving,” he remarked. He said several aspects that people need to focus on for ensuring a smooth exodus journey are preparing the vehicles, ensuring drivers’ health, as well planning the route and time. Following an increase in the movements of motorcycle drivers partaking in the exodus at the end of last week, he appealed to people joining the exodus aboard motorcycles via arterial roads to pay attention to the rest time. “We suggest exodus travelers, both those who use private vehicles to motorcycles, to pay attention to the rest time every four hours,” he stated. He noted that especially for those travelling on motorcycles for the exodus, the Land Transportation Directorate General has readied rest areas at several Vehicle Weighing Unit (UPPKB) sites. In addition, he appealed to exodus travelers to continue to follow traffic rules and directions given by officers on the field although severe congestion had not occurred. “I also ask exodus travelers, who use arterial routes, to remain alert of pasartumpah(temporary street markets) on the left and right sides of the roads,” he remarked. baca-jugaRelated news: Aim to reduce motorcycle traffic with free exodus transport: govtRelated news: Ministry dedicates two lanes of Cisumdawu Toll for homecoming traffic
