Taipei: The weather across Taiwan is set to become unstable starting Wednesday as new weather systems move in, with rain and a chance of snow on high mountains anticipated over the 228 Peace Memorial Day holiday weekend, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) announced Monday. Conditions on Tuesday will remain relatively stable, although an increase in cloud cover is expected in western Taiwan.
According to Focus Taiwan, temperatures will see lows ranging between 18-20 degrees Celsius, with highs of 26-29 degrees forecasted for most areas of Taiwan. Meanwhile, Kaohsiung and Pingtung County in the south are expected to experience slightly higher temperatures, with highs of 29-31 degrees.
Starting Wednesday, a passing front coupled with strengthening northeasterly seasonal winds will bring showers to Taiwan’s northern coast, eastern regions, the Hengchun Peninsula in the south, and mountainous areas in the north, as reported by the CWA. Although these seasonal winds are predicted to weaken by Thursday, another approaching front is expected to continue the rainy conditions in northern and eastern Taiwan, with the intensity of showers increasing progressively.
The CWA forecasts that rainfall will become more widespread during the 228 holiday weekend. From Friday to Sunday, the combination of temperature and moisture conditions may result in sporadic snowfall on mountains above 3,500 meters.
