Rain forecast for Taiwan through rest of the week

Most of Taiwan will experience rainfall throughout the rest of the week, with extremely heavy rain and heavy rain warnings issued for five localities, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) on Friday.

As a result of the effects of cloud systems moving in from the south, most of the country will experience rainfall between Friday and Sunday, the bureau said.

Yilan County will likely get the heaviest rain, with the CWB issuing an extremely heavy rain warning for the county.

The CWB said that chances of downpour and heavy rain could happen in the mountainous areas in Yilan, as well as areas like Hualien and Green Island.

The bureau has also issued heavy rain warnings in Keelung, New Taipei, Hualien and Taitung, and added that people in these areas should be alert to the risk of landslides and falling rocks.

As for temperatures, the CWB said that due to the effects of northeasterly seasonal winds, the country remained relatively cool early Friday morning.

Throughout the rest of the day, the CWB said temperatures in northern parts of Taiwan and Hualien will range between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius, while central Taiwan and Taitung in the east will measure between 22 and 23 degrees. It added that the high in southern Taiwan will reach around 26 degrees.

The CWB said that the effects of seasonal northeasterly winds will lessen on Saturday, with temperatures rising slightly in the northern and northeastern parts of the country.

However, it will remain cool in the early morning and evening, with a temperature dip likely to occur again starting Monday as seasonal northeasterly winds strengthen again, the CWB said.
