Retired pitcher Mike Loree hired by Fubon as international scout

Former Fubon Guardians pitcher Mike Loree, who retired this year, has been hired by the New Taipei-based team as an international talent scout, according to a statement Friday.

A household name in Taiwan baseball, the 38-year-old American right-hander had played professionally in Taiwan’s Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) from 2012 to 2013 and 2015 to 2022 before retiring during the 2022 season.

The New Jersey native was with the Guardians and the club’s predecessor, the EDA Rhinos, over the past eight seasons and had his number 39 retired by the club in 2022.

He finished his career with two Taiwan Series titles and the second most starts and strikeouts in CPBL history.

In a statement Friday, the Guardians said Loree had signed up to be an international scout to help the team evaluate and contact international talent for the 2023 baseball season in Taiwan.

He will also take part in discussions on which international players would be suitable for the team, the Guardians said.

Loree said in the statement that he was very happy to take on his new role scouting international talent and to continue to be a part of the Guardians family.
