Stuart Fairchild Reflects on ‘Greatest Experience’ at World Baseball Classic

Goodyear: Despite Team Taiwan’s early exit from the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC) earlier this month, outfielder Stuart Fairchild described the tournament as “one of the greatest experiences of my life.” Speaking to CNA in Goodyear, Arizona, Fairchild reflected on his WBC debut with Team Taiwan and expressed his willingness to join the team again if given the opportunity.

According to Focus Taiwan, Fairchild, born to a Taiwanese mother and an American father, first expressed his openness to playing in the WBC for Team Taiwan a year ago. The Seattle native, who turned 30 on Tuesday, has played five seasons in Major League Baseball and is currently in the Guardians’ spring training camp on a minor league contract with the club.

Fairchild was impressed by the enthusiasm of Taiwanese fans during the WBC, even when the team faced tough losses, including a 13-0 mercy-rule defeat to Japan. He noted that the fans’ support remained unwavering and every game felt like a home game.

In his first WBC appearance, Fa
irchild batted .250 with two home runs and drove in a team-high six runs. His performance contributed to a surge in his Instagram followers, increasing from fewer than 50,000 to about 334,000. Taiwan’s EasyCard Corp. also began a pre-order for an EasyCard featuring Fairchild during the WBC.

Fairchild had never been to Taiwan before the WBC but was quickly made to feel welcome by the team. Now back in the U.S. for spring training, his goal is to help the Guardians reach the playoffs. He also plans to visit Taiwan after the 2026 season to further explore the culture and allow his family to reconnect with their roots.
