Chengdu: Taiwanese athletes concluded the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China, with their second-best medal haul in the event's history, securing five golds, six silvers, and four bronzes. This marks a significant achievement for the Taiwanese team, surpassed only by their performance in 2009 when they hosted the Games in Kaohsiung and claimed nine golds, eight silvers, and nine bronzes.
According to Focus Taiwan, the latest achievements underscore the potential of sports to inspire and motivate, as emphasized by Cheng Shih-chung, director-general of the Sports Administration. Cheng highlighted the women's tug-of-war team's sixth consecutive title, the mixed beach korfball team's victory over the Netherlands, and powerlifter Yang Sen's world record 453.5-kilogram equipped squat as key moments of the Games.
Further achievements included skater Liu Chiao-hsi's championship in the women's inline freestyle slalom and powerlifter Chiang Kai-chieh's comeback victory in the men's equipped middleweight division against two Ukrainian competitors. The World Games, established in 1981, are held a year after each Olympic Games and feature non-Olympic sports.
