Taiwan Baseball Team Secures Victory at U.S. Pony Palomino World Series

Laredo: A baseball team from Taiwan's New Taipei emerged victorious in the U.S. Pony Palomino Division World Series, held in Laredo, Texas. The team defeated the U.S. West representative from Azusa, California, with a close score of 2-1.

According to Focus Taiwan, Ku-Pao Home Economics and Commercial High School represented Taiwan in the Pony Palomino (17-18 age group) World Series after clinching the Wang Chen-Chih Cup. This competition is named in honor of the Taiwanese-Japanese baseball legend Wang Chen-chih, also known as Sadaharu Oh.

During the tightly contested championship game, Ku-Pao's starting pitcher Luo Yu-yan initially faced challenges, allowing two hits in the bottom of the first inning, which were followed by a bunt and a wild pitch that resulted in a run. However, Luo Yu-yan regained his composure and delivered four scoreless innings, giving away only two additional hits.

Ku-Pao's offense was initially stagnant until the fifth inning, when a hit batter and a single by Tsai Sheng-jie set the stage for consecutive RBI hits from Chen Chen-jie and Zeng Sheng-an. This crucial moment granted the Taiwan team a 2-1 lead. Tsai later took the mound to pitch the final two innings without conceding any runs, securing the title for Ku-Pao.
