Jakarta: Taiwan’s men’s ©p©e team clinched its inaugural gold medal at the Asian Cadet and Junior Fencing Championship in Indonesia, triumphing over Hong Kong with a score of 45-41 in the final.
According to Focus Taiwan, the Taiwanese team, led by 19-year-old Lee Rang, included members Chen Bing-jyun, Lin Jhe-cyun, and Liu Han-wen. They successfully overcame a strong Chinese team in the semifinals before narrowly defeating Hong Kong to claim the title. Team coach Lee Chun-cheng expressed that Lee, Chen, and Lin have been fencing together since their youth, which has allowed them to develop a strong chemistry. Their contrasting styles posed significant challenges for opponents, and a favorable draw contributed to their unexpected victory.
Coach Lee also highlighted the individual achievements of the team, specifically praising 17-year-old Chen for securing a bronze medal in the individual event. In other developments, Taiwan’s women’s sabre team advanced to the gold medal match but was defeated by China with a score of 18-44, earning a silver medal and marking a new milestone in the team’s history.
The championship took place from February 20-27 at the Jakarta International Convention Center.
