Taiwan National Among Three Killed in Los Angeles Supermarket Crash


Los angeles: One of the three people killed when a car crashed into the 99 Ranch Market in Westwood, Los Angeles, has been confirmed as a Taiwanese national. The incident unfolded around noon near the University of California, Los Angeles, as a 92-year-old female driver initially struck a cyclist and then drove about a block before crashing into the store’s bakery section.



According to Focus Taiwan, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles confirmed that one of the deceased was a Taiwanese national. Additionally, three injured Taiwanese nationals are reported to be in stable condition, as per information from local police and the U.S. State Department.



U.S. media reports indicate that Los Angeles Police Department officials do not suspect the crash was intentional. Investigators are currently assessing whether the driver experienced a sudden medical or physical issue that led to the loss of control.



The 99 Ranch Market chain, founded in 1984 by Taiwanese immigrant Roger Chen, operates approximately 60 stores across the U.S., primarily catering to Asian communities.
