Taiwan Triumphs at 2025 World Darts Federation World Cup with Gold Win

Seoul: Two young Taiwanese darts players made a significant mark at the 2025 World Darts Federation (WDF) World Cup by claiming a gold medal in the prestigious tournament held in Seoul, South Korea, from September 22 to 27.

According to Focus Taiwan, athletes Tsai Yung-en and Yang Yi-ching emerged victorious in the 2025 WDF Girl’s Best Champions title, outperforming their under-18 counterparts from countries such as Finland, Mongolia, and Turkey. Their triumph was notable as they remained undefeated since their first appearance on the stage on Tuesday, showcasing a series of impressive wins against their opponents.

On Friday, Tsai and Yang clinched victory by becoming the first team to win four legs in the final, played in the Darts 501 format, which involves reducing a starting score of 501 to zero through rounds of three shots each on bristle dartboards.

The manager of the Chinese Taipei team, Chen Chien-lin, highlighted that playing on bristle dartboards posed a challenge for Taiwanese players due to their unfamiliarity with the material. This made Tsai and Yang’s achievement even more commendable. Chen also noted that this year marked Taiwan’s debut at the WDF World Cup, a biennial international competition since 1977.

Chen praised the duo’s performance on the international stage as being notably strong. Additionally, Tony Kuo, Chairman of the Chinese Taipei Darts Federation, remarked that the gold win in Taiwan’s first appearance demonstrated the fruition of two decades of preparation and effort.

In addition to Tsai and Yang’s success, Taiwan’s Tseng Chi-jui secured a bronze medal in the WDF World Cup Open Singles event for male darts players by defeating Finland’s Jonas Masalin 5-2. This victory positioned Tseng for a potential gold in the semi-finals on Saturday.

For its inaugural participation in the WDF World Cup, Taiwan’s delegation consisted of eight adult darts players, four under-18 athletes, and four staff members, marking a promising start for the nation’s future in international darts competitions.
