Taiwanese Catcher Lyle Lin Signs with Southern Maryland Blue Crabs

Waldorf: Taiwanese baseball catcher Lyle Lin has signed with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, an independent league team in the United States.

According to Focus Taiwan, the announcement of his new team came on Tuesday (U.S. time), shortly after his release from the Midland Rockhounds, the Athletics’ Double-A affiliate, on July 28.

Lin, 28, traveled to the United States on Monday to join his new team and promptly participated in an away game in North Carolina the following day, batting second in the lineup. The Blue Crabs, based in Waldorf, Maryland, will be Lin’s home for the remainder of the season, as he looks to make a significant impact in the Atlantic League.

The Atlantic League is known for its competitive level, generally considered to be between Double-A and Triple-A. It features a mix of players with major league or Triple-A experience and promising talents released from affiliated minor league teams. This environment may provide Lin with the opportunity to refine his skills and showcase his ab
ilities.

Lin has previously represented Taiwan in international competitions, notably playing a key role in Taiwan’s championship run in the 2024 WBSC Premier12. Despite his success on the international stage, his performance with the Rockhounds this season saw him struggle, managing no home runs and a .183 batting average over 32 games and 93 at-bats.
