Taiwanese shuttlers win big at Norwegian badminton tournament

Taiwan’s badminton players dominated the final day of the Norwegian International on Sunday to claim all three titles, comprising the men’s singles tournament as well as the doubles events for men and women.

Lin Chun-yi (林俊易), who is ranked 56th in the world, stormed to a 21-12, 21-11 win over compatriot Lee Chia-hao (李佳豪) in the men’s singles.

It took him just 30 minutes to sweep his opponent in two straight sets at the Jotunhallen Stadium.

The two Taiwanese shuttlers last encountered each other in the finals of the Hungarian International Championships in early November, during which Lee emerged as the winner.

The victory in Sandefjord, Norway marked Lin’s fifth badminton title this season, after Australia’s Bendigo International and Sydney International championships in October, the Belgian International in September, and the Mongolia International in August.

Also in the Norwegian tournament, the Taiwanese pairing of Chang Ching-hui (張淨惠) and Yang Ching-tun (楊景惇) defeated Sweden’s Clara Nistad and Jessica Silvennoinen 14-21, 21-12, 21-15 in the women’s doubles finals on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Taiwanese shuttlers Lu Chen (盧震) and Chen Zhi-ray (陳子睿) also bested their Japanese opponents Ayato Endo and Yuta Takei to grab the men’s doubles title that day.

The FZ Forza Norwegian International 2022 was held from Nov. 10-13.
