Taiwanese tennis ace Hsieh Su-wei (???) and Belgian partner Elise Mertens cruised into the women’s doubles finals at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California on Friday.
It took the No. 2 seeds Hsieh and Mertens just 54 minutes to defeat No. 3 seeds Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara of Japan in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-0, to advance to their second final as a duo.
The two pairings last met in the semifinals at Wimbledon in July when the Taiwan-Belgium duo won a hard fought three set match.
Hsieh and Mertens won the women’s doubles title at Wimbledon in July after defeating Russian duo Veronika Kudermetova and Elena Vesnina 3-6, 7-5, 9-7 in a thrilling doubles final that lasted 2.5 hours.
In the final, Hsieh and Mertens will face Veronika Kudermetova of Russia and Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan for the BNP Paribas Open title.
The BNP Paribas Open, also known as the Indian Wells Open, normally takes place in March but was postponed this year due to COVID-19.
The tournament is a Masters 1000 event on the men’s tour and is a WTA 1000 event on the women’s tour.
