Taipei: Taiwan's de facto ambassador to the United States, Alexander Yui, has pledged to improve his management style amid accusations of workplace bullying. In a recent statement, Yui expressed remorse over the disturbances caused by ongoing online allegations involving him and his wife.
According to Focus Taiwan, Yui has acknowledged the need to adapt his management approach and has expressed regret for the trouble caused to his team at Taiwan's representative office in Washington, D.C. He has committed to enhancing communication with his staff and has called for an investigation into the claims, which he describes as "pure fabrication."
The statement followed a call from Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung, who urged Yui to address the accusations publicly. During a legislative session in Taipei, Minister Lin emphasized the ministry's "zero-tolerance policy" on workplace bullying and noted that the personnel department is working to clarify the allegations against Yui and his wife.
Opposition Kuomintang (KMT) Legislator Ma Wen-chun highlighted online claims and tips from fellow lawmakers, accusing Yui and his wife of harsh treatment of embassy staff. In response, Lin urged victims of the alleged bullying to file official complaints to facilitate a formal investigation.
Yui has previously been involved in controversy since his appointment in late 2023. In 2024, he faced accusations of misusing taxpayer money for luxury items and renovating his official residence. Yui defended these actions, claiming they were for "diplomatic purposes."
