Tang Chia-hung Secures First Asian Championships Gold in Men’s Horizontal Bar

Jecheon: Taiwanese gymnast Tang Chia-hung claimed a gold medal in the men’s horizontal bar at the 2025 Asian Championships in Jecheon, South Korea, marking his first-ever gold at this prestigious event. Tang achieved a score of 15.233 in the final, with a 6.500 for degree of difficulty and an 8.733 for execution, surpassing 19-year-old Tomoharu Tsunogai of Japan, who earned silver with a score of 15.000.

According to Focus Taiwan, Tang’s routine featured the highest degree of difficulty among the eight finalists, showcasing his ambition and technical prowess. Tang initially qualified for the finals with a score of 15.000, which included a degree of difficulty of 6.100. However, he opted for a more challenging routine in the final, aiming to secure the gold medal.

Despite a minor slip that cost him a 0.1 bonus, Tang executed his routine smoothly and expressed satisfaction with his performance, celebrating with a fist pump. This victory adds to his previous achievements, including a silver medal at the Doha leg of the World Cup gymnastics events earlier this year and another silver at the 2019 Asian Championships in Ulaanbaatar.

Tang shared with CNA that winning another medal at the Asian Championships was both a form of recognition and a personal milestone. He emphasized that earning the gold at the start of a new Olympic qualification cycle confirmed the effectiveness of his training regimen. Looking ahead, Tang plans to train in Japan in July to make necessary adjustments, with his next competition likely in September. His primary focus remains the World Championships at the end of the year.
