Tokyo: Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL) announced on Thursday that its internal investigation has so far found no evidence of confidential information regarding Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s (TSMC) 2-nanometer technology being leaked to a third party.
According to Focus Taiwan, the statement from the Tokyo-based company followed the indictment of three engineers by the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office. These engineers were charged under Taiwan's National Security Act for the extraterritorial use of trade secrets related to "national core key technologies."
TEL confirmed the involvement of a former employee from its subsidiary, Tokyo Electron Taiwan Limited, who has been indicted by Taiwan's judicial authorities. The company expressed regret over the incident and emphasized its commitment to addressing the situation seriously.
The company reiterated that compliance with laws and ethical standards is a priority in its management policies, underscoring that violations are not tolerated. TEL highlighted the importance of information security, particularly in protecting sensitive data of customers and stakeholders, as a critical operational concern.
TEL's internal investigation revealed no evidence of organized instructions directing the former employee to obtain improper information. The company has pledged to continue its full cooperation with Taiwan's judicial authorities in the ongoing investigation.
