TWICE Concerts Attract Record Crowds in Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung: K-pop group TWICE drew massive crowds in Kaohsiung over the weekend as Taiwanese member Chou Tzu-yu returned home to perform for the first time, attracting thousands of fans to the Kaohsiung National Stadium. Greeting her fans in Chinese, Chou expressed her excitement about performing in her hometown with her bandmates.

According to Focus Taiwan, the band delivered an extensive setlist, featuring their latest track “THIS IS FOR” and the 10th-anniversary single “ME+YOU,” alongside fan-favorite hits like “Strategy,” “What Is Love?,” “FANCY,” “Feel Special,” “ONE SPARK,” and “Magical.” Fans began lining up early Saturday to buy official merchandise, and by the afternoon, over 10,000 people had gathered outside the venue to listen to the group’s rehearsal, cheering as the music echoed through the stadium.

The event also attracted a significant number of foreign fans, who packed nearby MRT stations, many of whom posed for photos with oversized posters of Chou. The influx of TWICE’s fans resulted in Kaohsiung Metro’s ridership reaching 350,000 on Saturday, marking the highest single-day figure this year and the ninth-highest in the system’s history. Light rail usage also surged to 54,000 trips.

Metro officials attributed the surge not only to TWICE’s concerts but also to other major weekend events, including performances by Wu Bai and Sun Shu-may, as well as city-organized festivals. Former President Tsai Ing-wen posted on Threads about the TWICE-related buzz, sharing a “blue hair” photo with Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai, matching the group’s fan color. Tsai highlighted Chou’s homecoming concert as a proud moment for Taiwanese fans supporting a local artist.
