On May 18, 2023, Mr. Attapol Sangkhwasi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, as Vice-Chairman of the National Education, Science and Culture of the United Nations (UNESCO), attended the meeting of the Commission on Projects and Cooperation with Other Organizations (Programme and External Relations Commission – PX) at the 216th Meeting of the UNESCO Executive Committee at UNESCO, Paris, France. The meeting considered the agenda for the Nominations of new items of documentary heritage to be inscribed on the Memory of the World International Register, which included the National Collection of Palm-Leaf Manuscripts of Phra That Phanom Chronicle)
Scriptures on Urangaga Elements regarded as an important ancient document It is authentic with only one scripture. The content is a vernacular version of Buddhist literature in the Northeast that uses regional language expressions. It is a manuscript book in Isaan script, Thai and Pali language, with melody written in an ancient language specific to the local area, which is beautiful, inserting morals, beliefs, customs and traditions. Words are used as expressions of language to portray images. Inclusion of important documents or events as UNESCO Memory of the World Heritage Sites There is a process for consideration by International Advisory Committee (IAC) and endorsed by the Executive Committee meeting this time, which has a total of 64 registrations. Thailand proposes to register UNESCO World Memory of the Year 2022. – 2023, 2 items, namely, Thai books on Nantho Pananta Sutra Kham Luang and a manuscript on Urangagathat. The Permanent Secretary of Education thanked the Board of Directors (IAC) and the Executive Board Meeting who have considered certifying the manuscript on the Urangagathat as a memory of the world. It has not yet been reviewed and has been revised 3 times. Therefore, he asked UNESCO to provide an official explanation in order to take suggestions to further improve the document.-Thai News Agency
