Taipei: Strengthening northeasterly trade winds are set to lower temperatures in areas north of Chiayi County to around 14 degrees Celsius from Tuesday evening through early Wednesday morning, as reported by the Central Weather Administration (CWA) on Monday.
According to Focus Taiwan, CWA forecaster Cheng Chieh-jen explained that the trade winds will impact Taiwan until Friday, with anticipated highs of 20 to 22 degrees in northern Taiwan and 26 to 28 degrees in the central and southern regions during the coldest period from Tuesday night through early Wednesday.
Cheng noted that the weather system is expected to weaken by Friday, which will lead to a slight increase in daytime temperatures in northern Taiwan. However, another batch of northeasterly winds is projected to move southward on Saturday, bringing temperatures down to about 14 to 16 degrees across Taiwan.
Brief showers are forecasted for Tuesday along the coastal areas of Keelung City, as well as in Yilan County and regions north of Taoyuan. Isolated brief showers may also occur in Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, and mountainous areas.
Moisture moving from the south will bring brief showers to northern and eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula from Wednesday evening to Thursday. Mountain areas in central and southern Taiwan might also experience isolated brief showers during this timeframe.
Though most areas are expected to be sunny to partly cloudy on Friday, eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula may still experience isolated showers. Furthermore, a tropical disturbance east of the Philippines has strengthened into a tropical depression, but it is predicted to move towards Vietnam and is not expected to directly impact Taiwan.
