Yushan Experiences Snowfall; Rain Predicted for Upcoming Holiday Weekend

Taipei: Snow fell on Yushan, Taiwan's highest peak, on Wednesday at around 11:30 a.m. and ceased by noon, as reported by the Central Weather Administration (CWA). The agency also issued warnings about expected rainy weather during the upcoming holiday weekend.

According to Focus Taiwan, CWA forecaster Lin Ting-yi noted that temperatures were approximately 0.8 degrees Celsius when the snow occurred on the 3,952-meter mountain. The snowfall ended as the air's humidity decreased and temperatures increased. Lin also predicted that more snowfall is unlikely over the following two days due to low humidity. However, a new weather front on Saturday might bring renewed snow chances, contingent on temperature changes.

In other regions, sporadic rain was anticipated on Wednesday in areas north of Tainan, with heavier rainfall possible between Hsinchu and Chiayi. The rainy conditions are expected to lessen somewhat on Thursday, though scattered showers might continue, especially in mountainous areas of central and southern Taiwan, as per the CWA.

The weather agency stated that temperatures will slightly drop in northern Taiwan from Wednesday to Thursday morning, with highs reaching 22-23 degrees Celsius and lows of 16-17 degrees. In central and southern Taiwan, temperatures will range between 20 and 30 degrees during the same period. The CWA's data indicated that temperatures should recover from Thursday to Monday, with lows around 19-20 degrees in the north and 21-22 degrees elsewhere. Daytime highs are projected to reach 25-28 degrees in the north, 29-33 degrees in central Taiwan, and 30-33 degrees in the south.

Despite the temperature rebound, more rain is expected during the four-day holiday from April 3 to April 6 for Children's Day and Tomb-Sweeping Day. On Friday, northern and southeastern Taiwan might experience intermittent rain, while other regions will have partly cloudy to sunny skies, with possible afternoon thundershowers.

From Saturday through Monday, rain is anticipated across much of the island, with a possibility of heavy rainfall in northern Taiwan on Saturday. The CWA advised that spring weather is unpredictable, and forecasts may change.
