79-Year-Old Woman Struck by Train at Taoyuan Level Crossing

Taipei: A 79-year-old woman lost her life after being hit by a train at a level crossing in Taoyuan, police reported. The incident occurred in the Neili area of Zhongli District, where the woman, known by her surname Wang (?), entered the tracks without authorization.

According to Focus Taiwan, surveillance cameras revealed that the railway barriers had already been lowered when Wang ventured onto the crossing. The reasons behind her actions are currently under investigation by the Taoyuan Branch of the Railway Police Bureau.

Police officials noted that they were alerted to the incident at 6:41 a.m. The train involved, local train No. 2133, was on its route from Keelung to Chiayi. Authorities collected evidence at the scene until 7:24 a.m., after which the train was permitted to continue its journey at 8:01 a.m.

During the investigation and clearance, train services between Taoyuan Station and Neili Station were limited to two-way traffic on the westbound track. Normal operations on the double track were restored by 8:19 a.m., as stated by Taiwan Railway. The incident impacted 30 trains, accruing a total delay time of 691 minutes, according to the company.
