High UV and Heat Levels Expected Across Taiwan: CWA Forecast

Taipei: The ultraviolet index (UVI) across Taiwan is expected to reach “very high” levels on Tuesday, while daytime temperatures are projected to exceed 30 degrees Celsius, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) announced.

According to Focus Taiwan, the maximum UVI across all 22 municipalities is anticipated to range between 8 and 10, which is classified as “very high” on the scale. The CWA website indicates that daytime temperatures are expected to vary from 32 to 35 degrees, with parts of Taipei potentially reaching up to 36 degrees.

In the outlying areas of Penghu and Kinmen counties, as well as the Matsu Islands, daytime temperatures are forecast to reach between 30 and 31 degrees. Temperatures are predicted to dip after sunset but will remain around 25-27 degrees, as per the CWA.

The CWA also mentioned that atmospheric moisture will be high on Tuesday and Wednesday, resulting in partly sunny skies across Taiwan. There is a possibility of regional thunderstorms and heavy rain in western Taiwan and mountainous areas, with extremely heavy rainfall briefly occurring in the south and central mountain areas.

Additionally, a tropical depression was located 550 kilometers east-southeast of Taipei at 2 a.m. on Tuesday. The CWA noted that it is intensifying and could develop into a tropical storm. However, it is not expected to directly impact Taiwan as it moves toward Japan and South Korea.

Independent meteorologist Wu De-rong confirmed that the system might strengthen into a tropical storm on Tuesday but is unlikely to affect Taiwan. Nonetheless, he highlighted that a tropical disturbance south of Guam could continue to intensify while drifting west-northwest, potentially passing over Luzon Island in the Philippines. Wu emphasized the importance of closely monitoring this system to determine any potential impact on Taiwan.
