Detroit: Detroit Tigers infielder Lee Hao-yu set a new milestone in Major League Baseball by breaking the single-season hits record for a Taiwanese player. Achieving this feat during an 8-5 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, Lee's performance on Monday marked a significant moment in the history of Taiwanese baseball players in MLB. According to Focus Taiwan, Lee entered the game at PNC Park tied with Yu Chang, who had previously set the record with 54 hits for the Cleveland Guardians in 2021. At 23 years old, Lee reached this milestone in his 80th game and 205th at-bat, outperforming Chang's 2021 record attained over 89 games and 237 at-bats. Lee's exceptional performance continued as he singled to left in the third inning, drew a walk from reliever Isaac Mattson in the fi fth, and forced in Detroit's sixth run with a bases-loaded walk against Yohan Ramirez in the sixth. He concluded his offensive showcase with an infield single off Gregory Soto in the eighth, marking his first three-hit game in the majors. Lee's overall performance saw him finish 3-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs, successfully reaching base in all five plate appearances. This contribution raised his batting average to .275 and increased his season hit total to 57. Additionally, Lee is approaching another record held by Chang, the single-season MLB home run mark for Taiwanese players, with Lee currently at six home runs. The Tigers' win not only ended a three-game losing streak but also improved their record to 61-64. With the Minnesota Twins suffering a loss on Monday, Detroit now finds itself tied with two other teams for the American League's final wild card spot.
