Taipei: A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck off the coast of northeastern Taiwan at 11:09 a.m. Friday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA). The epicenter of the temblor was located at sea, about 36.5 kilometers south southeast of Yilan County Hall, at a depth of 15.2 km, according to the administration.

According to Focus Taiwan, the earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effects of a temblor, was highest in Yilan, where it measured 4 on Taiwan's seven-tier intensity scale, the CWA said. The quake also measured an intensity of 3 in Hualien County in the east, 2 in New Taipei City in the north, and 1 in Taipei and Taoyuan cities and Hsinchu County in the north and Taichung City and Nantou County in central Taiwan, the CWA added.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
