Taipei: Taiwan's Liu Heng-yu won a gold medal in the women's 10-meter air pistol event on the opening day of the World University Shooting Championship in New Delhi, India, on Saturday. The 21-year-old, who had earlier represented Taiwan at the Paris Olympics this year, achieved a remarkable first-place score of 239.4, narrowly edging out India's Palak Gulia by 0.3 points. According to Focus Taiwan, Liu, along with her teammates Chen Yu-ju and Lin Rou-yu, also secured a silver medal in the women's team event of the 10-meter air pistol category. Liu's coach, Chen Chiu-yen, shared that Liu's confidence received a significant boost when she clinched a bronze medal at the ISSF World Cup in India last month, which has contributed to her current excellent form. Coach Chen mentioned that Liu felt at ease and confident during the competition, marking a transition from her previously more "deliberate" shooting style. Looking ahead, Liu plans to participate in the 25-meter air pistol competition, a new event she has recently begun training for. The 2024 World University Shooting Championship will continue until Wednesday, offering Liu further opportunities to showcase her talent on the international stage.
