Taipei: Brief showers are anticipated in the eastern half of Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula on Friday as a Pacific high-pressure system weakens. Areas south of Hsinchu and its mountainous regions might also experience brief showers later in the afternoon, with central and southern Taiwan likely facing heavy rain probabilities.
According to Focus Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) has indicated that hot weather is expected to persist throughout the day, with temperatures reaching highs of 32-35 degrees Celsius. However, certain areas in western Taiwan could see temperatures climb above 36 degrees. The outlying islands of Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu should anticipate highs of 31-37 degrees.
Meanwhile, a low-pressure system in the Bashi Channel south of Taiwan could potentially develop into a tropical depression in the coming days, causing unstable weather as it heads northward over the weekend. Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong has projected that Taiwan could feel the full impact of this weather system between Sunday and Monday. Should the depression evolve into a tropical storm, it would be named Danas. Wu’s forecast models suggest sunny and hot weather will likely continue through Saturday before rain starts affecting southern Taiwan and the eastern half of the island the following day.
Additionally, Wu noted that another tropical system has formed near the northern tip of Luzon in the Philippines and is moving westward, influenced by a Pacific high-pressure system. It is expected to gradually turn northeast on Saturday and pass through the Taiwan Strait on Sunday, though its path requires further observation.
