KAOHSIUNG: The Taiwan Space Agency (TASA) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) to establish a framework for enhanced cooperation in the space industry between Taiwan and Poland. Michal Wiercinski, the vice president for industry cooperation at POLSA, shared details of the MOU during the Taiwan International Assembly of Space Science, Technology, and Industry (TASTI) 2024, which is currently being held in Kaohsiung. According to Focus Taiwan, the MOU outlines potential collaboration between Taiwanese and Polish companies and academics, particularly in the fields of telecommunications and cloud-based or earth observation services. Wiercinski, who is leading a Polish delegation at the event, emphasized Poland's growing competitiveness in various space-related fields. This year's TASTI event, organized annually by TASA, aims to connect experts from different sectors to exchange insights and innovations. Highlighting Poland's participation in TASTI for the fir st time, Wiercinski noted that the decision to sign the MOU was initially made during the Space Symposium 2024 held in Colorado Springs in April. While acknowledging Poland's relative newcomer status in the space arena compared to European leaders like France and Germany, Wiercinski pointed to significant advancements since Poland joined the European Space Agency in 2012. The country now boasts a cluster of approximately 70 companies driven by highly skilled engineers. With Poland's small- and medium-sized space companies seeking opportunities beyond the saturated European market, Wiercinski expressed interest in Taiwan's advanced satellite manufacturing capabilities and its research and development in rockets. He views these strengths as a foundation for fruitful collaboration that could yield mutual benefits for both nations.
