Taiwan-Australian Duo Secures Runner-Up Position at Eastbourne Open

Eastbourne: Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei and Australia’s Maya Joint finished as runners-up in the women’s doubles final at the Eastbourne Open on Saturday.

According to Focus Taiwan, Hsieh and Joint were bested in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, by the team comprising Marie Bouzková from the Czech Republic and Anna Danilina of Kazakhstan. This marked the first collaboration between Taiwan and Australia in tennis doubles, with the pair hoping to build on Joint’s earlier victory in the women’s singles championship. However, Bouzková and Danilina’s strong start disrupted Hsieh and Joint’s serve advantage, leaving the duo unable to capitalize on their initial tie in the first set.

In the second set, Hsieh and Joint attempted to regain control by securing two breaks, positioning themselves potentially to extend the match. Despite their efforts, they were ultimately unable to sustain their momentum, succumbing to a 7-5 defeat in the second set.

The Eastbourne Open, a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 250 tournament, took place
in Eastbourne, United Kingdom. Following their performance, Hsieh plans to reunite with her Latvian partner, Jelena Ostapenko, as the fourth-seeded pair at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships in London, scheduled from Monday through July 13. Hsieh aims to secure her 10th Grand Slam title during the championship.
