Taipei: Taiwan’s government will continue to roll out various measures to enhance the protection of workers, President Lai Ching-te stated on International Workers’ Day. In a social media post, President Lai expressed gratitude to the workforce in Taiwan for their significant contributions across various professional fields.
According to Focus Taiwan, the president outlined the government’s commitment to “elevate the rights and interests of workers” through several initiatives. These include modifying labor laws, reducing taxation on ordinary employees, and encouraging private enterprises to increase salaries. President Lai emphasized that supporting businesses during global economic uncertainty is crucial, as stable businesses ensure secure employment for workers.
In a strategic move to mitigate external economic pressures, the Cabinet has proposed a draft bill to allocate NT$410 billion (US$12.7 billion). This funding aims to cushion the impact of U.S. tariffs on Taiwanese industries, stabilize the job market, and strengthen Taiwan’s digital and security infrastructure. The NT$410 billion funding authorization bill was finalized by the Cabinet on April 24 and is now pending legislative approval.
These measures reflect the government’s proactive approach to safeguarding worker rights while maintaining economic stability in a challenging global environment.
