Taiwanese paddler through to final at WTT Contender Zagreb

Taiwan’s Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Lin Yun-ju (???) on Sunday downed Patrick Franziska of France 4-1 to advance to the men’s singles final at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender Zagreb in Croatia.

World No. 8 Lin had a hard start at the match, trailing 0-4 before catching up for a 5-5 tie. He eventually lost the first game 5-11.

However, Lin made a comeback by claiming four straight games 13-11, 11-5, 11-5 and 11-3 at the match that lasted 41 minutes and 52 seconds.

The match also marked Lin’s third straight win against world No. 12 Franziska in their career encounters, the last one in the group games at the Tokyo Olympics.

Lin will play against world No. 65 Xiang Peng (??) of China Sunday evening for the title.

Xiang defeated world No. 18 Chuang Chih-yuan (???) from Taiwan, 11-7, 11-6, 8-9, 11-9, 11-9 at the semi-final.

Meanwhile, several Taiwanese table tennis players performed well at the WTT Contender Lima in Peru.

Cheng Hsien-tzu (???) and Huang Yu-Wen (???) reached the final at the women’s doubles and will play against Sakura Mori and Asuka Sasao of Japan.

But Taiwanese players Chen Chien-an (???) and Feng Yi-Hsin (???) only made it to the men’s doubles semi-final, while Feng and Su Pei-Ling (???) also lost at the same round in the mixed doubles.
