Taiwanese Ultramarathon Runner Completes Yukon Arctic Ultra Race

Taipei: Taiwanese ultramarathon runner Tommy Chen completed the Classic Edition of the 6633 Arctic Ultra, a non-stop 617-kilometer foot race traversing the Arctic Circle in Canada. Chen finished the race in seven days, 23 hours, and 19 minutes, trailing behind British athlete Guy Belchier, who secured second place, and Australian Aaron Crook, who claimed first with a time of seven days, 22 hours, and 35 minutes.

According to Focus Taiwan, seven ultramarathon runners participated in this year’s 380-mile Yukon Arctic Ultra. The race commences at Eagle Plains in the Yukon and concludes on the banks of the Arctic Ocean. The 38-year-old Chen was the sole Asian athlete in the Canadian Arctic race this year.

Chen, who was in Taiwan in February, remarked on his rigorous preparation for the race. He expressed his hope that more individuals would courageously pursue their aspirations. “When you put your heart and soul into it, you will be closer to achieving your dreams,” he stated.

The ultramarathon runner has completed several significant races in the past, including the 250-km Marathon des Sables in Morocco in 2023, and the 500-kilometer Montane Lapland Arctic Ultra in northern Sweden in the previous year.
