The only one in Thailand, villagers of Nong Kathao Subdistrict, Nakhon Thai District, Phitsanulok Province, continue the tradition of parading the Chuchok ghost to join the Mahachat sermon festival, which is held every year before the end of Buddhist Lent, and has been practiced for hundreds of years. At Nong Kathao Subdistrict, Nakhon Thai District, Phitsanulok Province, the villagers gathered to sermon Mahachat Phra Maha Vessantara Jataka 13 sections, 1,000 verses, as an annual tradition. There will be a procession of the phaapaa and Mahachat sermons, Chuchok section, moving from the village headman's office to present to the temple, a distance of over 2 kilometers, with village representatives dressed as Chuchok, Kanha, Chalie, and Nang Matree joining the procession. The important highlight that attracts attention is the 9 Chuchok ghosts or yellow Chuchok, who wear the same color cloth as monk's robes, dress like mummies, and wear ghost masks, walking in the procession with large phallus hanging from the ir waists. While walking, they will dance to the music of the parade floats and joke with the villagers standing on both sides of the road, creating a colorful and fun atmosphere. Mr. Pochanat Manee-natkun, the headman of Nong Kathao Subdistrict, revealed that this tradition has been passed down from the villagers of Nong Kathao Subdistrict for a long time, since the generation of grandparents. In order to preserve and continue this tradition, this tradition will be held one week before the end of Buddhist Lent. Villagers will come together to organize a parade and dress according to their beliefs, including Chuchok, Kanha, Chalie, and Nang Matree. In particular, the Chuchok ghost, or yellow Chuchok, is only found here in Thailand. Village representatives will bring yellow cloth, the same color as a monk's robe, which is considered a representative of Buddhism, to wear instead of normal clothes. There will be a ceremony to tell grandparents and ask for forgiveness from the Triple Gem before dressing up, and have monks sprinkle holy water on them. Then, they will put on a red ghost mask with bulging eyes and a long tongue, and hang a large phallus from their waist. The procession will parade along the main road in the village before bringing the pile of phaapaa and sermon items to offer at Wat Nong Song Tao, where a Mahachat sermon will be held.
